The Devils Lake Chamber Announces a New Sponsor to the Walleye Tournament

The 40th annual Devils Lake Chamber walleye tournament just got bigger! The Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the addition of Ranger Boats to the tournament line up with their Ranger Cup program. Ranger Boats will pay the winner $1,000, if they are Ranger Cup qualified at the tournament held in June. The Ranger Cup is another addition to the great line up of sponsors to the walleye tournament.

Troy Morris, Ranger Boats Regional Sales Rep stated, “The annual Devils Lake Chamber Walleye Tournament is a community event that attracts anglers to test their skills on one of the top world class fisheries in the Midwest. Ranger along with the local Ranger Boat dealership, Blake’s Marine, could not be more excited and proud to support this milestone event and our customers.”

The early-bird deadline is March 31, and of all teams entered then, five will be drawn for complimentary entry fees in the 2016 tournament.  A new rule to the tournament this year will be the boat number assignment. Boat numbers will be assigned in the order of applications received, with boat number one priority given to the previous year champions. As a special prize for the 40th annual tournament, the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce awarded the 40th entry a free entry to the tournament as well as tournament shirts to wear.

All team members will receive a Cabela’s jacket, and will be eligible for daily big fish and other prizes.

Largest walleye each day is worth $500 from Scheels and Farmers Union Oil.  The weigh-in ceremonies hosted by tournament director and world champion walleye angler Johnnie Candle will be streamed live.

Largest pike daily pays $250 from North Dakota Telephone Company and Horizon Financial Bank.  The day two northern pike shootout is an optional tournament for those out of contention after the first day.

Largest white bass pays $100 per day from Old Main St. Café and Mr. and Mrs. J’s and LaMotte’s Paint and Glass.  The largest perch each day is worth $100 from Blake’s Marine and Gerrells Sports Center.

Pooh’s Taxidermy will mount the largest walleye and pike caught.  State Farm Insurance awards $100 to the mixed couple with the highest weight.  Klemetsrud’s Plumbing and Heating will honor the largest walleye basket with $250.  A host of other special awards will be distributed by Slumberland Furniture, Creative Impressions, Jerome Wholesale, Sleep Inn & Suites, Bergstrom Electric, Proz End of the Line, Real Estate 7, Lake Region State College, Berkley and Scheels.  Lunch each day is provided by Leevers Foods, Flatlanders Sandwiches, Schwan Wholesale, Farmers Union Oil, and Walmart.

The tournament weigh-in will also stream live on the internet each day.

A special kid’s fishing clinic will be conducted by Professional Anglers after Saturday’s weigh-in at Graham’s Island State Park with goodies to be given away.  This event is sponsored by Rilos & Mimi.  Reel Fun Days will take place Saturday with downtown retail sidewalk sales, vendors, daytime entertainment, a street dance with 8th Hour playing into the evening and family entertainment. New to Reel Fun Days this year is the RibFest which will take place downtown in the late afternoon. Watch for details on this event on the Chamber of Commerce website.

Paula Vistad, Executive Director of the Devils Lake Area Chamber of Commerce stated, “Sponsors are a critical part of any fishing tournament.  When I started working on the Chambers Walleye Fishing Tournament I could only dream of someday having the sponsors that we do today.  Devils Lake is fortunate to have a community that stands behind its tournament, and it has now for 40 years.  It has just been in the last couple years we have picked up several new sponsors.  Ranger Boats is one of our newest sponsors and we couldn’t be happier to have Ranger on board with us.  Ranger is a company that we are proud to be presenting at our 40th Annual Walleye Fishing Tournament and we look forward to partnering with Ranger in years to come.”

40 Years and Stronger than ever: Devils Lake Chamber Walleye Tournament

ChamberWalleyeTournamentLogo2016

The 40th annual Devils Lake Chamber walleye tournament, with $60,000 in prizes, is slated for June 24-25. The North Dakota event attracts 2-person teams from across the Midwest, all vying for the $5,000 guaranteed first place cash prize. Last year’s walleye winners, Jarvis and Mike Kaderlik, netted 47.99 pounds.

The father-son team from Mankato (dad Mike), MN and Bismarck (son Travis), caught nearly 200 walleyes during the two day event, and didn’t keep any unless they hit the 22-inch mark. “This is a great excuse to fish with my son,” Mike said, “And, we’ll do it again.” They cast Rattlin’ Raps and Jointed Rapalas in 2 to 10 feet of water over and through weeds in the Pelican Lake area of Devils Lake.

The weigh-in ceremonies hosted by tournament director, guide and world champion walleye angler Johnnie Candle will be streamed live from Graham’s Island State Park. The early bird deadline is March 31, and five early-bird teams will be drawn for complimentary entry fees in the 2016 tournament. All team members will receive a Cabela’s jacket, and will be eligible for daily big fish prizes. For the 40th anniversary tournament, the Chamber of Commerce will award the 40th entry received free entry into the tournament, along with tournament shirts.

Largest walleye each day is worth $500.  Largest pike daily pays $250. The day-two northern pike shootout is an optional tournament for those out of contention after the first day. Last year Cory Anderson and Ken Remmen won the shootout with 16.3 pounds. The largest white bass pays $100, and the largest perch each day is worth $100.

For the youngest team, Zach and Garrett Schemionek, age 17 and 20, the 2014 Chamber tournament was their first competitive event, and they entered again last year, and will be back this summer. They would like to see more young people enter. “This is a blast and we sure learned a lot,” they said. If both team members are under 21, the entry fee is $235, compared to the normal $275 fee.

A special kid’s fishing clinic will be conducted after Saturday’s weigh-in at Graham’s Island State Park with a limited amount of rods and reels to be given away.
